Following the General Medical Council (GMC)’s publication of the Good Medical Practice: interim standards for physician associates and anaesthesia associates, Dr Rob Hendry, Medical Director at Medical Protection said:
“Physician associates and anaesthesia associates are playing an increasingly important role in patient care and the introduction of regulation reflects the responsibilities they hold and the risks they manage.
“The publication of these interim standards marks an important milestone in the introduction of regulation. These are the standards that physician associates and anaesthesia associates will be expected to follow.
“We encourage physician associates and anaesthesia associates to ensure they are protected. Members of Medical Protection are able to request advice and support, including assistance in cases when the GMC is investigating their practice.”
