The GMC has launched a consultation on the content of Good medical practice. The guidance, last updated in 2013, outlines the professional values, knowledge and behaviours expected of doctors working in the UK.
Commenting, Dr Rob Hendry, Medical Director at Medical Protection, said:
“The world of healthcare has become increasingly more complex since Good Medical Practice was last updated; demand is high, resources are stretched, and this core guidance must reflect the systemic issues and other challenges doctors face today.
“The GMC’s desire to engage doctors and their representatives in the consultation process is encouraging, and we will do what we can to help facilitate this. Good Medical Practice underpins everything that doctors do and how they care for patients – getting it right relies on input from those who use it. We will review the draft update in detail and respond in due course.”
