Commenting on the junior doctor’s proposed new contract, negotiated by the BMA with NHS Employers and the Department of Health and Social Care, Dr Pallavi Bradshaw at Medical Protection said:
“We are pleased to hear that junior doctors have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed new contract negotiated by the BMA with NHS Employers and the Department of Health and Social Care. The deal signifies the end of the years of uncertainty faced by junior doctors over the contract.
“In the next few months, a cohort of new junior doctors will be starting out on the wards, putting their training into practice. While there will be challenges, it is important to build an environment which allows them to succeed and harness the enthusiasm new doctors have. We hope improvements in shift patterns, rest periods and facilities, as agreed in the contract will support doctor well-being. Measures to increase personal and organisational resilience are vital to prevent burnout which is a significant problem among junior doctors. Ultimately, enhanced well-being and resilience creates a safer environment for both doctors and their patients.”
